It's estimated that tourism from Mexico to America will be 7% less valuable in 2017, causing a reduction of $1.1 bn. The 2018 figure is set to be even lower, a drop of $1.6 bn. Those figures come from research firm Tourism Economics. Rewind, and it's apparent that the increase in anti-Mexican sentiment started during the Trump election campaign, when he frequently spoke of Mexicans in disparaging terms.

In Los Angeles, hate crimes had been dropping for 7 years to 2015 - but there was then a surge which was specifically anti-Mexican with phrases such as 'wetback' featuring,and three-quarters of those verbal attacks accompanied by physical violence. It was when Trump started to speak openly against Mexicans that his poll ratings against fellow Republican candidates increased. "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crimes. They're rapists." Those are just some of the words Trump used in his campaign. And his supporters have bought into and copied that bluntly racist hatespeech. With that tone set by the man who became President, is it any wonder that fewer Mexicans are willing to visit north of the border, even for a holiday?

Trump's words were very harsh for Mexican immigrants in the U.S. "Criminals and rapists". When Mexico sends it's people, they're not sending the best," Trump said in his announcement speech last June.

They are sending people having lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems into our country. They are bringing drugs. They bring crime with them.

From the first day of his campaign, Donald Trump acknowledged Mexicans as 'rapists' and criminals and has promised to deport 16 million people, including children and U.S. citizens.

This is the reason why Mexicans are now not a mood to visit USA. I mean it' obvious why would someone want to visit the country where they'll feel unsafe and those who are already residing are considering returning to Mexico as their best option.
