How many people migrate every year from Europe?

Official statistics show that some European countries have near to 10% of their native population living abroad. The UK is a particularly poingnant example of a country with a reasonable percent of its population living abroad, at a whopping 4.9 million. Poland and Italy, for instance, boast similar figures, albeit still lower than the UK, with an average of 5-6% of their total population choosing to move abroad. Of course, it's difficult to tell how many emigrants from European countries are, in fact, leaving Europe altogether; for instance, older generations in the UK head to Spain, which wouldn't count towards 'people migrating from Europe'. There seems little evidence out there of official statistics for European emigration, but I'm confident it would be a much more modest 1-2% with many Europe natives choosing to move to the United States, Canada, and Australia, to name a few. According to offiicial statistics, most emigrants to the United States from Europe pursue business, science and arts jobs, which suggests Europe may be losing essential skilled workers.
