How should leaders take care of themselves?

Leadershipis a demanding "sport" and as every sportsman, leaders need to rest in order to stay in shape.

Some leaders keep in touch with reality be compeltelly differentiating their work and home relations, by having all the rest at home and all the work at work, without mixing each other.

Other leaders tend to work at a slower thought process lane in order to stay fresh and not "burnout". If a leader, or anyeone else in fact, were to burn out, it makes a big STOP for them to continue their quest for whatever they are after.

Leaders need to have their own peace of mind about the things they do and the way they place them on their schedule so they are both all the time fresh and in shape.

Leaders should pay special attention to their health. If they are running very responsible and high position, they should keep in mind health is important too.

In regards to type of care, I think they should watch out on their psychology and successfully manage stress. It can be done through meditation which helps calming the mind, enhances concentration and gives clarity in making decisions.

Phsycal activity can help reduce stress and make feeling better about their body: exercises, running, different sports. Healthy food is also important: regular meals are there to give us all necessary vitamins and strength so we can go trough the whole day.

And we should not forget the rest at home or through some other fun activities. It all depends on what type of person is the leader.

Leaders have a very difficult position, they have a huge responsibility, and they are constantly solving some of the new problems, so they are often exposed to great stress. It is therefore necessary for them to learn the stress in some way to break down. It then depends on the type of person, what kind of relaxation he chooses. Since it is about working with people, it is no exception that the leaders choose to relax alone - fishing, running or yoga. Sport is, in my view, a very good way to fight stress. Whether the leader chooses relaxation and stretching exercises such as yoga or pilates or prefer explosivity - boxing, running, martial arts, etc., everything is certainly worthwhile. The body and the mind are able to relax and all the workload falls off. What I think is very important, however, is that not only the leaders, but actually all the others do not take their work home. If anyone does, he can never rest, which of course leads to civilization diseases - heart attacks, back pain, depression, etc. Have you ever tried to switch off the phone and not check your social networking profiles every hour? It is really refreshing!

By choosing the inner circle members carefully. A leader needs to be surrounded by true friends and great mentors. These two are important for a leader to have because they will play different roles in a leader’s life. True friends who say things the way it is not say things you want to hear. This type of friends is difficult to find, but when you find them, they’re like a solid rock that keeps you grounded. They remind you of who you are and support you in every step you take, while also criticize you relentlessly and honestly. They are there in gruesome and victory times. All leaders need mentors whom can inspire and be followed to. When you’re just starting your fight to success, a mentor could be a source to imitate. A good mentor will share his/her knowledge and history about the success s/he achieved, and you’d think in dark times “what would my mentor do in time like this?”. This will bring your spirit back and try again. Physical maintenance is also important. A leader must take care of own's health and nutrition in order to lead effectively. A healthy body is a perfect shell for a healthy mind. It is not arguable that becoming a leader is stressful, but a smart leader will not choose doing damaging stuff like smoking and drinking excessively to ease the mind. The healthiest way is to meditate, have a strong believe in God, and surrounded by loved and trusted ones.

This is a difficult thing to do in today's extremely competitive environment. There will always be somebody who is ready to step into your shoes at the slightest sign of weakness.
At the end of the day, is anyone going to pay you more because you work 24/7? Probably not! If you run yourself into the ground you are of no use to your staff / company and of little use to yourself. When you are SO tired, doesn't your judgement become slightly affected?
It is easy to lose sight of the damage you can do to yourself and your role by continually working flat out. And let's not forget about the damage it can do to your health. If you are over-tired, do you become somewhat cranky? Do you start snapping at your staff? Will this make you rather unapproachable? Does team morale suffer as a result?
Trying to strike the right work / life balance is difficult but vital. When you are well rested, you can think more clearly and perhaps even approach things from a different perspective which you might well overlook when you are exhausted.
Protecting yourself and your reputation is also important. Try to ensure that you do not leave yourself vulnerable to criticism both in a professional and personal capacity as this too can undermine your authority within your organisation.
