Do Americans support building a wall on the Mexican border?

According to November 2016 polls 55 per cent of the US population do not support the US-Mexico border wall. As of January 2018, that number has risen to 63 per cent of the American people who do not support the building of a US-Mexico border wall.

The 30+ per cent approval of the border wall comes from the hard-right core Trump supporters. A few pro-border enforcement groups want the US- Mexico wall built immediately regardless of the political price tag to Trump or the cost to taxpayers. Pros of the border wall include overall security of the United States (reduction in illegal immigrant and drug and human trafficking) and cost of lost revenue (estimated $113 billion a year in lost income tax revenue from illegal immigrants).

Cons of the wall include the cost, history has shown that it does not work keeping people out, it will create a division of the three indigenous tribes in the area and will impact the migration and mating routes of several species, many on the endangered species list.
