Is science really under threat from the Trump administration?

Some words from Donald Trump, in one of his Tweets: Any and all weather events are used by the GLOBAL WARMING HOAXSTERS to justify higher taxes to save our planet! They don't believe it $$$$!

As well as denying that global warming exists, Trump has also indicated his belief in the discredited theory that vaccines cause autism. He's also slashed NASA's funding for global warming research, and made cuts to the National Institute of Health and programmes run by the Department of Energy and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

In a nutshell, those facts explain a lot about why scientists are so fearful of the Trump administration's attitude to science that on April 22, 2017 40,000 scientists and their supporters marched to voice their concerns in Washington. Worldwide, there were 600 marches on the same day.

Trump's actions are particularly worrying because historically science has not been viewed as an area for partisan intervention - he not only refuses to acknowledge facts about global warming, he is actively trying to prevent more work being done about it, and his actions suggest a deepseated belief that making money matters more than anything else, whatever the human, social, and environmental consequences.
