The study of liberal arts is critical in today’s society, precisely because there are so many fields of specialization. The free and open pursuit of knowledge about what makes us human is crucial if society is to maintain a multi-faceted and inclusive view of the world. Additionally, you need only take a glance at public discourse today to see it is deeply compromised by ideology over reason and exclusion over inclusion. A liberal arts education attempts to foster a worldview in which people use reason to see beyond their own perspective and prejudice. The ability to see the world through this lens is vital in a world where specialization of knowledge and polarization of opinion prevails.

Very good point, Mark! Completely agreed. Liberal arts teach critical thinking skills which are extremely necessary in today's divided work of opposing ideologies, "fake news" bias and fear-based sensationalism.
