Why don’t politicians listen to climate change warnings?

The science is clear that the earth is warming, yet there are many who go to great pains to refute any and all evidence. Generally speaking, the more liberal you are in outlook and political leaning the more likely you are to be supportive and accepting of climate change evidence. Republicans and people on the right end of the political spectrum tend to be dismissive about climate change evidence. A lot of this stems from the fact that environmental regulation to address climate change is seen as being a direct barrier to creating a favorable financial environment for economic growth. Partisan politics aside though, ultimately climate issues are long-term and affect generations to come. Politics by contrast is all about winning the next election. By its very nature politics undervalues issues of long-term concern to our planet.
