Are there inspirational civil society leaders and organizations in Croatia?

Yes. I will name the most recognized and, in my opinion, most active ones.

  1. Croatian Caritas - humanitarian catholic association which helps everyone in need and poverty, founded 1934.

  2. GONG - established 1997 to encourage citizens to participate more actively in political process, oversees the elections and educates citizens about their responsible duties.

  3. B.a.B.e. -founded to promote and protect women's human rights and promote gender equality

  4. Green Action - a citizen association for environmental protection, created in 1990.

  5. HHO - The Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, maybe the leading human rights promotion association. Established in 1993 until 2003 it acted as a representative of the International Helsinki Federation and then as a domestic association.

  6. Transparency International Croatia - primarily deals with the suppression of national and international corruption and increasing government responsibility.

Unfortunately, it is hard to find many inspirational civil society leaders nowadays in Croatia because society in Croatia in general is currently in state of unsatisfaction with the political state of country and with the fact that a lot of our population in the past few years migrated in other countries. But if I must choose one, I would say that our president Kolinda is the only politician who has symphaties of more than 50% of Croatian population, so she is still the one with the most influence on people that has their approval. Organizations such as B.a.B.e. are currently very active and has influence on women's human rights. Another organization worth mentioning is ''Živi zid'', political and activist party that fights for the poor and mostly protects them against eviction from their homes due to debts.
