Which characteristics do you admire the most in leaders?

I admire their ability to make others follow them, admire them and respect them, not only the ability to get followers but also the ability to maintain them.

I also admire their ability to not crack under pressure, leaders are responsible for lots of people and with that comes great responsibility but they still do it and give it their best, taking care of their followers the best way they can.

And last but not least their teaching abilities. A good leader teaches their followers all he/she knows, preparing their followers for the future, teaching them how to be independent and self-sufficient and also teaching them how to lead.

A good leader needs to inspire in so many ways. Firstly, one wants the assurance that this person excels in their role, that they have a comprehensive knowledge of their particular field / industry which means it will be a pleasure to learn from someone whose skill-sets you admire. They need to demonstrate a level of confidence in their own abilities and a sense of fairness when dealing with the vicissitudes within an institution's work environment.

Secondly, but no less importantly, humanity. At the end of the day, you are dealing with people, all of whom will have their own idiosyncracies, strengths and weaknesses and will, inevitably, have good days and bad days. Praise is vitally important so that milestones don't go unrecognised but, being able to identify when a member of staff is struggling and having the compassion / empathy to be approachable in these circumstances will ensure great loyalty from the people who work for you.

I admire how deep the knowledge of a leader of his/her own organization is. I can say this aspect can tell you a lot about a good/bad leader. How many leaders would know if today's a member's birthday? How many bosses would say words of appreciation for the efforts that have been carried although it was not successfull? It is an important trait of a good leadership so that it can take place.

What qualities I respect the most in a leader are:

  1. Honesty - I expect that my leader will have the strength to tell me both my positive and negative sides directly and openly. It is the only way that leads to proliferate relationships.
  2. Openness to criticism - it is important for a leader to be ready to accept reasonable critiques.
  3. Personal attitude - everyone has different needs which has to be taken into consideration when a leader is making decisions.

  3. Emotional Stability - to not get carried away by emotions in decision making
  4. Conscientiousness - to stick to commitments and stay undeterred with their discipline and work ethics
  5. Openness - to accommodate and flexibly cooperate with followers and take in different perspectives
  6. Inspirational Motivation - to communicate and express expectations and purposes in simple ways

At the very top of the list, these are the characteristics that I admire most in leaders:

  1. Honesty and Integrity are the essential characteristics. If you are an honest person, it's very likely you will achieve great results with your team in the long run.

  2. Confidence goes along with honesty. A true leader must be confident with what he does.

  3. Inspiration - Inspire others. Make work easier for yourself by making others put in their 120%.

  4. Communication - Two words: listen and then speak. You can do wonders.

  5. Critical decision-making cannot be excluded for a leader. Decision-making should be done on a daily basis.

There are certainly many of characteristics, so I just give a few to illustrate:

  1. Reliability and accountability
  • To say it simply, an unreliable person can never be a good example for others.
  1. Loyalty
  • The dedication and fidelity of your work and team is highly valued and at the same time very rare! Believe in your colleague, give them confidence and be loyal to your work, and gain confidence from your co-workers!
  1. Work and diligence
  • For the leader, it is very important to be himself as an example. A naked man who does not want to work too much will certainly not dazzle or inspire anyone.
  1. Ability to communicate
  • Very important property of the leader. If he cannot communicate properly with his team, he will certainly not have the results he would need. It is also extremely important for a leader to behave consistently - that means, he should not have any major fluctuations in his behavior and rating. The leader also should not favor unjustifiably some members of his team.
  1. Fair behavior in all circumstances
  • There's probably nothing to say more about this point ...

I admire the most in leaders their capability to constantly cope with the stress, pressure and other's expectations. Regardless of many benefits of that position, it is great responsability. Also, their capacity and competence to bring difficult decisions that are sometimes not very well received is realy something to respect for.

It was always fascinating to me how leader can manage to tell their workers/co-workers/followers what they need to do in a way that isn't offensive or just to show off his leadership. Yet, they listen to him/her and do what he/she told them to do. That is also characteristic I truly admire and applaud because it is more difficult to mantain the followers than just gain them.

Great leaders share some characteristics. Some of these characteristics that I have come to appreciate from great leaders are:

Honesty - This entails doing what the leaders said they would, following their own code of conduct and remaining authentic.

Forward Thinking - Great leaders realize that changes will happen whether they like it or not and preparing for those changes defines them.

Competence - Great leaders use their skills to lead effectively, such skills include planning, motivating, communication etc.

Inspiration - An inspirational leader harnesses his passion and motivation and passes it onto his team. This spurs confidence in the team as they have a clear direction of where they are going.

For me, characteristics I admire the most in leaders are their confidence, and bravery maybe. By bravery I mean dealing constantly with everyone's needs and never ending new problems. When people around him are down and with no will to go forward, he is the one that brings them up and pushes them forward, providing hope and by his own example shows that nothing is impossible as long as they work hard for their dreams and for themselves.
