If everyone is a leader, who will be a follower?

If everyone is a leader, followers would also be everyone.

To explain this, we just have to picture every single person as somebody who gives their opinions, suggestions and forms their decisions, but that decisions are constructed in a way which inculde opinions and suggestions of others. In that way, through their ideas and advices, every person is involved in leadership. On the other hand, when someone states an opinion and suggestion, that person must be okay with the fact that their idea might not be accepted by others and that other person might have better solution or decision. In that way, although in some case they are leaders, they are followers as well.

Everyone is different - with different strengths and weaknesses. There are those who relish being in the spotlight and those who wish to take a somewhat more anonymous or less adventurous path. So, it is unlikely that everyone can be or wishes to be a leader.

There will always be those who excel, who are happy to push themselves to the forefront and, similarly, there will always be those who wish to follow a leader. Perhaps the gentler souls, those who are less confident or those who simply do not enjoy the onus of responsibility.

And, ultimately, it is difficult to be a leader is you don't have any followers!

Leaders can be followers as well so even if everyone is a leader they will also be followers of someone else. One of the best things in leaders is that they are inspirational and there is a lot to learn with them. Everyone admires someone, even leaders, then they will be followers of the one they admire, also, good leaders are constantly seeking to improve themselves and for such they need to be constantly learning and they need someone to learn from. Besides if there are no followers, how can we say someone is a leader? If everyone is a leader, they will also be followers, if there are no followers then there are no leaders.

Even if we imagine a world full of leaders only, it will still be a matter of perspective what means leading. There is no way a single person to know everything which is a well-known truth ever since ancient times and Aristotle's famous quote just confirms it: 'The more you know, the more you know you don't know'. From this perspective it is clear that a knowledgable and innovative leader in one sphere will be qurious follower in another. What is more, most often these roles are not strictly defined which makes it easy to be a leader and a follower in the same time.

This can be explained by the relationship expressed in a leader- follower continuum. Imagine there is an infinite number of leaders who have infinite number of followers. Now what if we are taking into assumption that all the followers are leaders as well? In that case, just like the infinite Hotel Room Paradox, this can be explained by giving all these infinite number of followers represented by the letter ’n’ each, one follower each who can be represented by the letter ‘n+1’ and so on. However, a simpler solution to this solution can be all these infinite number of leaders and followers are leaders and followers of each other. It’s simple. All leaders aren’t subject experts in all matters and there are grey areas to deal with which these leaders would have to seek the help of other leaders who are experts in those areas, thereby being a follower of some leader. The same way, other leaders could look up to this leader in terms of their expertise in their field.
